The Elephant in the room: coaching fees.

So, let’s address the Elephant in the room.  Never mind how he got there or who let him in.  The fact remains, he’s here and on our watch.  So, let’s not pretend.  Let’s stop trying to make small talk and change the topic.  Let’s address this head on!  I’m talking about the Life coaching fees.  The cost.   I’ve heard but thankfully I have not yet experienced any of what I would call hard core rejection because of price.  So what are the issues surrounding the objections.  Frankly, I’m not sure.  But I do know this, people in general will pay for what they value, and they will do so without question.  Another thing I believe people struggle with is not really knowing what a life coach is or what a life coach is able to do for them.  There are many types of coaches, persons with considerable expertise.  There are coaches with certifications and coaches with no certifications.  There are relationship coaches, career coaches, family coaches and on and on. But what they all have in common is communicating and “selling” the value of our services.   Some coaches charge by the hour, some by the session, others, based on value.  A client could be charged by the blocks of service they provide.  For example, a fee for a month of service.  Some coaches lock their clients into a time frame.  Others, like me charge a flat fee for certain number of sessions.  As an example, I charge $200 for individual coaching for a standard 2 session exchange at 45 minutes per session.  The first session serves as a consultation.  The second session a plan is crafted and presented, and the client selects in what manner they feel they can contribute to attain the goal.  An additional session may be secured in the event the plan requires an adjustment of some kind.  So far, that structure seems to work for my clients and for me. I arrived at that pricing structure based on the value I believe I can provide.
