You might ask. Everything. At least for me. My name is James W. Falcon. My name is James, not Jimmy. Nor Jim. My name is James. And, I would prefer to be called just that, James. Meaning don’t shortened it to make it easier for you nor more convenient for you. Jimmy was a grace that I extended only to people in my life and for damn good reason. They were extremely instrumental in my schooling and my personal growth and development. They were and still are permitted to use the shortened form of my name because I regard them to have a certain special status in my life-status that they earned outright. Status that is inclusive of so much more than the a name selection. Status that considering how much they’ve invested in me is but a poor compensation and pitiful display of gratitude and appreciation in response to all that they have done. The bottom line is this: names are expressly important to me. My name as a person and the names I chose for things. Projects, books, websites, all matter. I may be taking the long way around the barn to make my point. Suffice it to say when I started this blog, I don’t think A New Horizon was available at the time, so I carefully chose another name-Daybreak-one that I felt was as close in meaning as I could find at the time. Circling back around on the topic I discovered that A New Horizon was now available so I quickly took the steps necessary to acquire it. The sentiment I am trying to convey is that a newness, a freshness is made available to us each day. One that we can enjoy and from which we can benefit. The break of day marks the end of night and darkness and a symbolic or an actual coldness or despair. A brand new beginning is available in the light and the warm of the sun. As it relates to a new horizon, no matter if we fix our eyes on new coordinates or on the very same coordinates, we can enjoy the same horizon with fresh eyes and with a fresh appreciation no matter the number of times we have beheld it in the past. I believe we can approach our goals in the very same manner. with a newness, with a freshness, with a new and different enthusiasm with the help of the wonderful modality of coaching. That may be a bit overly dramatic but I truly believe in the effectiveness of the modality. I have seen it at work in the lives of my clients. Long before, I opened my own practice, I experienced the effectiveness as an employee of an incredibly successful manager who embraced coaching as his preferred tool of choice in managing and leading his team from sales plateau to sales plateau. Coaching works and when used by knowledgeable leaders and professionals it can be transformative like a daybreak or athe observation of a new horizon. Which is why I even bothered to render this explanation in the middle of my blog. “How vain, without the merit, is the name.” -Homer.
