I’d like to introduce the bloggosphere to the term and the concept of drafting the calendar. I developed the term several years after I experienced the most incredible explosion & exhibition of inspiration ever! It was during a spell of writing I had in the fall and winter of 2019. The term was born out of my need to finish a book I began months earlier, a book that almost never got finished due to a life threatening, life altering stroke that I suffered in early November 2018. After a lengthy and arduous battery of rehab, I was discharged in April 2019. By the Fall, I was roaring and ready to resume my love of writing. I remember it vividly. It was the week of Thanksgiving when I pick up my pen again. Long story much shorter, I finished the book so unbelievably quickly that was concerned that maybe I had overlooked some crucial steps. But after a thorough investigation, I concluded that all was in order and zi was in fact ready to upload the manuscript to the publisher and I did so confidently and with great relief to see a 2 year project completed. Feeling supremely ambitious I browse through my pending book titles list and discovered that There were 2 books that were relatively small in volume that I believed I could finish and also upload to my publisher and so I did. Believe it or not but I also wrote a third book from scratch and I converted my masters thesis into book format and uploaded it too. Bringing the total number of books to 5. Yup, you read it correctly. Five! The process occurred from just before Thanksgiving 2019 through to my birthday, February of 2020. To connect the dots here I realized that wind on which I was soaring creatively was the extreme love and spirit of the the holidays coupled with the excitement of the dawn of my 50th birthday. I am confident that I doubt that I could have produced that many works in any other time frame under any other set of circumstances. Looking back, there was an ease that I enjoyed as if I was driving on an interstate behind an 18 wheeler. The truck cuts through the head winds creating a pocket of head wind free travel for the vehicle directly behind it. The truck in essence is doing all the work and the car behind enjoys all the benefit. As a coach, I invite my clients to consider beginning certain goal pursuits on certain calendar days to take advantage of the spirit of celebration associated with that day. As an example one of favorite go to days just recently passed-the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year. I advise my clients to use the Winter Solstice to reflect of the pains, the disappointments, the offenses, failures and obstacles you’ve experienced during the year. After briefly reflecting on those negative things, release those things and leave them there and look forward to a brighter future. Physically, the solstice is the shortest day of the calendar year because it has the least number of hours of sunlight. After the Winter Solstice, the days get longer and longer. More and more sunlight occurs each day thereafter all the way up to the Summer Solstice which is the longest day of the calendar year. Which by the way is a great day to begin new ventures, projects, and goal pursuits. Using the calendar in that way affords a number of opportunities m no throughout the year for change. Take a good long look at your calendar and take advantage of the days and seasons and e draft your way into change you’ve always wanted to see. Enjoy!
